Longest entry ever Merry Christmas and a manicurist with a hangover....
Just got a manicure from this chick with the shakes - big time. She was hungover as she explained to her salon coworker. A bad situation if you are getting a french manicure (boys, thats when the tips of your nails are painted white...you have to have a steady hand).
Anyhow - I have gone out this week more than in all the time I've been here thus far. Tuesday night I joined John and some of his new language school friends for dinner at a restaurant in the Recoleta (ritzy neighborhood) called Comer (thats "to eat" for the spanish-impaired). I'd had a ravenous appetite for 3 days and I was trying to control it - and we wend up at a place called Comer. Murphy's law. So of course I gave in and ate everything in sight. It was excellent.
Then John and some of the boys went back to their residence and I wandered off with some of the rest. Marie - a German girl, her friend Sabrina who is Argentine, Hunter - from Colorado, and Magaly - a Bolivian girl born and raised in Washington DC and Virginia. We went to Milion (yay!) and met up with more people. "Chief" - Chinese fellow from London, Ann Marie - Dutch girl, and a few others who's names I dont recall. Magaly, Sabrina and I
We had some drinks at Milion and took off to La Cigale - a bar that had a long long line out - so we bailed and headed to Zanzibar. Very cool little bar - met a boring Frenchman and his equally boring Danish friend. Ann Marie showed me a crystal she had glued to her tooth - very cool idea I thought. Some glue you use to attach braces and a simple crystal and you're set. I'm kind of into the idea of gluing a bunch of crystals to my fangs...wouldn't that look awesome? hmmm...... At around 4 AM everyone went back home.
Here's Ann Marie and I at Zanzibar (tooth crystal not visible - booo!)

Wednesday I went and checked out the church where my parents got married. Its beautiful - small, ornate and situated right next to the famous cemetary where Evita is buried.
That night Flurina and I headed to Opera Bay (looks like the Sydney Opera House) to meet up with Marie and Magaly at an "After Office" - basically a place where "professional" young people can go and socialize/dance earlier in the evening as opposed to starting the evening at 2 AM. See the people in business attire?
Its become VERY much the place to see and be seen. The idea being that these people have jobs that require that they wear suits..implying that they are professional and well-paid and so on. Of course there are many that dont have those kinds of jobs and just throw on a suit and tie ;) Well - the line was outrageously long (maybe 500 people?) so Flu and I took off to an Italian restaurant on Puerto Madero. Marie joined up with us later. Around midnight Flu was pooped so we headed back. Marie came over to watch the OC then took off.
Thursday was Magaly's last day in Argentina. I met up with her at the Teatro Colon for a tour at 11 AM. Lovely theatre that opened its doors in 1908.
I bought tickets to see the ballet Giselle next week with Joyce - should be very cool - I got balcony seats. I love the balcony talk that used to happen amongst the "fashionable elite". They'd just sit there and talk smack and glare at and judge each other. It'll be pretty hilarious to sit in a balcony watching a famous ballet and live a bit of that pointless intrigue in my head. Afterward, Magaly and I went to have lunch and we were joined by Chief. She took off to meet up with someone else - Chief and I headed to Cafe Tortoni (where Borges used to hang out) and for a walk around town.
Later that evening I went to a cool bar/restaurant called Carnal to meet up with him and some of his friends Jo, Keisha, Emily and Bernadette and two Swiss guys who's names I dont remember. Very cool spot, Carnal. the upsatirs patio is great - except that when the lightening and thunder came we were a bit too exposed to the elements. Buenos Aires has a way of threatening you with bad weather and not delivering. It did that night, but only for about 1/2 and hour. Later on everyone returned and the night continued on.

Some great artwork on the wall at Carnal
Got home around 5 AM. Woke up much too late in the day. Got a call from John - went with him to San Telmo. We were almost killed twice. The first time when the bus took off without the door closing behind us and we were still in the stairwell, the second time when I pressed the button to let the driver know we wanted to stop and suddenly the door opened while the bus was still going FULL SPEED and he and I were standing right in front of this door. Well - we finally exited safely from this bus'o'death and toured around the neighborhood. Saw some crazy mullets, which was great - so much vibe down there. I have to get back and check out a restaurant there or something. Its got great antique shops, art galleries, cool cobbled streets, and that romantic architecture you find all over town. Cruised by the Casa Rosada,
and got home around 8:30, finished up with the pan dulce I was making for a family Christmas party (I'll tell you how those turn out) and then got a call from Maya - a friend of a friend from LA. We've never met, but she seemed quite chill. She invited me out to a party with her and her boyfriend Federico. They swung by around 12:30 to pick me up. We went to this house that on the outside looked pretty standard. Inside it turned out to be a really long lot. Great patio, a pool, a house in the back. There were maybe 40 people there chatting, listening to techno that was spinning on the owner's turntable. Never would've imagined that would be the case. We stayed until about 5AM. Maya is very cool - she was raised in Chicago and New York - she's my age - has lived in NY, chicago, LA, Vegas, Miami - and maybe some other places - not sure. Interesting gal, very funny and she loves Strictly Ballroom so it all checks out. My camera battery was dead so no pics there...
Allright - thats enough for now. Merry Christmas Eve!!!!!!
big kiss!
