Catching up

Quite a few things over the past few days. Most importantly - the cooking class. I learned how to bake a couple of things, and make a few appetizers. It was fun! Esp. the baking part. Annoyingly, I didn't take a pic of what I baked, but i'll tell you - tasted great.

A few remarks: its cool how they serve coffee here. Its not everywhere, but in most places when you get your coffee you get a little shot of water or soda water and sometimes a little cookie or a small portion of a tart or something. Its great. the water is there to clear the palate and the sweet thing is there, just to have something sweet. makes drinking a coffee more of an event. Its great. More ceremony then just a "cup of joe".

Going back to me having to fake an argentine accent when saying words in English. Here's a few of their favorites here: "feeling", "touch", "look", "fashion" and "relax". They use "relax" as a noun, not a verb. So they'll say "Playing golf is a great relax". "Fashion" they use as an adjective, not a noun. Ie: Those jeans are very fashion. They should say "stylish" instead.
Another they use that I haven't mentioned: "a full". pronounced "ah fool". Like saying "all the way". I think they got it from the idea of going "at full speed" or "all the way" - something like that. For example someone who is rockin' bell bottoms, a peace sign, flower patterns etc is doing 69's fashion "a full".

oh - so tonight I finally decided to break out of the shell. i went and read a magazine at Sullivan's. An Irish pub like 8 blocks from my apt. I introduced myself to Pablo and "Tuba". Argentine and Norwegian respectively. Pablo works at a pub close to where i live, Tuba has been living in B.A. for the past 2 years. He's decided he wants to study photography and is going back to Norway for a month to get his student visa. Pablo's dad is Spanish, his mom is Italian and he wants to open up a bar called "Roots" soon. Anyhow - cool guys. May join them at a club later this evening.

Here are some pics - one of the cooking school, and one of Pablo and one of "Tuba".
