Super Argentinianosity

Misty arrived and I took her to an art class full of argentines and completely in Spanish.
The next day we woke up and went to a equestrian jumping competition at the club where I take lessons.

Mostly older men, and one early 30's fellow that we decided looked like Hugh Grant. His real name is Alejandro Moda(something). Anyhow, he's rich, handsome, is married and has two young daughters. Hooray.
We also got to see the eyepatch guy. Turns out his eye was injured b/c a horse kicked him and not only that, one of his legs doesn't function properly due to childhood polio. He rides a 2.5million dollar (yes, US dollar) horse and is apparently one of the best riders in Argentina. Fascinating man. I forgot his name. After a few hours surrounded by Argentina's snobbiest we took off. That night I decided we would head over to La Viruta again. I didn't take the camera, but it turned out not to be a problem. Talent Scout and Cheekbones were no where to be seen. Still, we had a good time.
Monday night Fernando arrived and we ate at La Rosalia - like 10 blocks away. Neighborhood grill type place. It was late - 11 something PM. The meat was too dry - only the Bondiola was good (its a pork cut). The ensalada rusa (potato, carrot, peas and mayonnaise salad) was sub-par as well, but it was fun being a real local's place. The following day Fernando took Misty and I on a tour of the Law School where he had studied for 6 months a few years back. Here's a flattering photograph of the inside (there is an older photo of me outside the school in an old entry, maybe in December?) That night we headed to Lo De Bebe - another neighborhood grill only about 2 blocks from my house. Awesome place. Great chorizo and awesome wait staff. These two guys would insult each other while you're eating your steak and fries and suddenly you feel like you're part of the neighborhood. Hilarious. Bobby finally got in town -but spent a day with family before heading out to the apartment. It was a glorious arrival That night we headed off to a peña - a place where people play Argentine folk music . Great place. Fernando's friend was there celebrating her moving to Uruguay to being a new job. Lots o fun, Bobby Fern and I like folkloric music so we had a good time. Here's a trio who's lead singer is from Jujuy - its the northwestern-most province of Argentina. Misty got to hear some genuine Argentine traditional tunes! and the food was great. Bobby doing the classic "ojo" (which means "eye") which means "look out" or "careful" or "watch it"....

Thursday - my first trip to Siga La Vaca ("Follow the Cow") - its all you can eat steak. All you can eat steak. All the steak you can eat. As much steak as your body can handle. Its kinda smart that they put a mild laxative in the desserts. We joined up with Fernando's friend Solange and two of her friends and ended up at Mitos Argentinos - a bar/club in San Telmo. This nerdy kid hit on me - pretty funny. He was actually daring enough to try to block me from getting back to my friends. Needless to say I had to set him straight, "Your chances are already slim and they continue to go down with every passing second that you keep me from my friends". I think the message was clear ;)

Yesterday was Misty's last evening - so naturally we went to La Cabrera where I've gone with Mike, Amelia, Tammie and Shannon. Great place - love it. Then we joined up with Sol, my parent's friend's niece to go to A Mod (same place as the hip hop club but on a "rock" night - great music by the way) - but we didn't get in. It was Misty, Bobby, Billy, and Billy's fellow VW employee from Hamburg. When all else fails one must always go to Mundo Bizarro. As usual it was cool. This morning Misty went to Roho to get her hair done, bought some soccer stuff and a great t-shirt, a scarf as is mostly likely by now at the airport waiting for her flight. Bye Mist!!!!!!!!!!!! She was great to have around and she had a fresh perspective on everything. She's quite an observant girl and as usual we had wonderful conversations. She fell in love with a few Argentines, ate steak, heard tango and folkloric music, expanded her spanish vocabulary, drank mate and saw a horse jumping competition. I hope she had a good time!

I just got back from my art class. Tomorrow we go to a soccer match.. Monday to the Teatro Colon for some Rachmaninoff and Beethoven (yaay!!!!!). I'll be uploading more fotos and updating some content later.. ciao peeps.
