World's weirdest theme park EVER....
I've been to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Magic Mountain - maybe a few others - but I've never seen anything like this.
Welcome to Tierra Santa - the world's first (and only?) religious themepark. It translates to "Holy Land". Its only a 15 minute cab ride from my apartment. Unbelievable. Just like being in ancient Jerusalem!!!!!!!!!
a view from above
The first thing you see when you enter - Mount Calvary where Jesus was crucified. You climb up a ramp to get closer look at all three crucifixions there, Roman soldiers laughing, women weeping etc.... Its actually quite graphic. When you walk around to the other side you see life-size representations of the Roman soldiers holding his Jesus' body. Gruesome? Sure - but fun for the whole family!!!
. You just keep saying - with no pun intended WHATSOEVER - "Oh my God!!!". At first I had pangs of guilt thinking that this seemed to be like a bit of a joke. Hokey, cheap, not serious. Luckily seeing some nuns there made me change my mind. I figured that they must see this place as good wholesome fun, so then I felt less guilty ;) Part of me still has that bit of fear instilled in me by the nuns of Good Shepherd!!!! (for those of you who have known me for more than 14 years - you'll remember).
I had Mike stand by and pray at their version of the Wailing Wall. There is actually quite a bit of information about Judaism of course...They even had a little house where they offered the men yarmulkah's before entering.
The park's most eye-catching attraction - the 60 foot Jesus that resurrects every 30 mins. When its about 5 or 10 feet up they play "Allelujah!" - once he is completely ascended his eyes close, his head tilts back and his outstretched hands rotate slightly so his palms face the sky. He then opens his eyes and the entire statue turns in one direction about 1/4 of the way, then does the same in the opposite direction. Its INSANE!!!!!!!! Here is a photo at night - his heart lights up. There is a crowd of about 400 people watching but I couldn't get it all in one frame...I've got video - I'll show you when I get back to the States.
A scene of Jesus being whipped, and some park goers just hanging out.

We ate shwarmas and hummus at Mount Ararat - there's also Bethlehem and the Baghdad Cafe ;) We were there for about 3 hours or so, and giddy as school kids. Its really tough to put properly into words - its just crazy.
