This dog....he's just too cool.
Before I begin - i just want to thank Joyce Hu for changing the way I take photographs. She really made me think of my little digital as more than a tool to document moments - its a portable and instant way to create something artistic.
I was crossing the street a few days ago after getting my hair french braided (the salon lady may call me to use me as a hair model for some Coca Cola thing. I asked her "since when does Coca Cola do hair shows? and my hair is blue...shouldn't it be red?") and I saw this dog. Local dog - like the kind I mentioned early on - the incredibly layed-back ones (Oh Lordy I'm glad I closed my window, the rain is now horizontal!! Its insane the kind of downpour we've been having since yesterday. Oh - and there's some lightening - looks like God's got his own flash photography happening). I reached for my camera and took a couple of snap shots.
Does it get any better than this guy? I wanted to adopt him to be pals with my dog Sancho.
He reminded me of the dog from The Little Rascals. The one with the ring around his eye. Some lady stared at me like I was crazy so I went up to her and showed her the pictures and I said "aren't his markings incredible? I just HAD to take the picture!". She agreed with me, but I could tell she was dismissing my enthusiam as some kind of youthful weirdness. I should've taken a picture of her...she had crazy makeup and I could've said that her "markings" were weird as well - the only difference is that the dog had no choice in the matter! ha!
Went to guitar class #2 that evening - here's my new friend Naila. Born and raised in Barcelona but her dad is from Argentina. She's here now studying dentistry and has an amazing apartment about a dozen blocks away. We're pretty similar she and I, and each of us is in need of a good hang-out partner, so we're happy we live in the same neighborhood. Hopefully we'll get to meet some more locals and integrate a bit more into Argentine life.
Here's me in class inspired by Johnny Cash - wearing black and playin' the gi-tar!
After class it started to pour rain - here's a shot of the rain from a taxi. The driver was cool - he was pointing out pictures for me to take. Of course they didn't turn out -I couldn't use flash without the window being down and getting drenched and without flash most shots were too blurry...
Another one of these "FoxLife" ads - this one says "You can lose 5 kilos with a breakup!". What is up with this ad campaign!??!!
Before going to a gorgeous little coffee shop last night I walked by a church tucked into the midst of a swanky neighborhood. I walked up some stone stairs and looked inside and I was struck by the image of the Crucifix and the way the light created shadows of Jesus and the quiet beauty of the church's interior.
I would've taken more photos, but there were people inside and I didn't want to seem disrespectful...
There were a couple of brief blackouts this week - one of which happened last night while at the cafe. Lasted about for less than 3 minutes and since I love brief blackouts I took a some pics to commemorate them. Here is the first one - that was on Tuesday - people dining at a cafe,
and here is the cafe one, I was reading "Veronika Decides to Die" by Paolo Coelho - highly recommend it although I'm not done yet.
Took the long way home all around the botanical garden - I felt so giddy walking in the rain... and I saw how some of these famous cats in the garden manage to stay alive...
.
I also thought this little grocery store had a certain charm in the rain...like the only bit of light on a dark and damp street.

Here's some artwork that is actually placed into the bar and backlit. Whats great is that the backlight makes the windows look like they have actual natural light coming in...strange artwork though - Gabriel and I spent like half an hour making up stories about what was going on...and what that weird pasty soapy looking old man figure was...

Today I've got horseback riding and tomorrow I fly out to Punta del Este for a few days to visit friends - I get back on Tuesday - hopefully I'll get to squeeze in some tango related activities because starting tonight is the Festival de Tango. They plan on having the big opening ceremony in the park tonight...I think the park at this point is a swamp....
