QUARTER FINALS, BABY!!!!!!!

WE WONNNNNNNNNNNN!

absolutely nerve-wracking game. Seriously, Mexico was in control for the first half. They were. It felt like they had 15 guys on the field. Argentina seemed scattered and nervous. Then, in the second half things started to turn around. You could feel the tide change. Suddenly we had possession. Its seemed like we could score at any minute. Then, about minute 89 (90 minutes in a match) Leonel Messi scored! I screamed like a banshee! the ref called it offside which it turns out was an error. still the game went into overtime. Then Maxi Rodriguez, who has just impressed the hell out of everyone since the first match, stops a ball with his chest and kicks with his left sending the ball flying about 75 feet into the top corner of the mexican goal. INSANE!!!!! that's Maxi post-goal
quick side note - for one of the coolest world cup songs - check out "un'estate italiana" (an italian summer). it was for the '90 world cup. the girl's voice is pretty scratchy, i actually thought it was a guy. they are using this song for a cell phone commercial here. pretty great. it really captures that grandiose, romantic, hopeful spirit of world competition.

back go to the match...Mexico made it really hard. All of us here were scared the entire time. All those fans on tv that said "I knew we were going to win all along." Right. Whatever.

So now all we have is 6 short days to enjoy our status as a quarterfinalists, then comes Deutschland...
they're good, and they've got the home court advantage. Its scary. Best not to think about it now, just enjoy the present. Top 8 teams will be left...
